La Cascade des Tufs is an epic waterfall in Jura, France.

This amazing waterfall would definitely be worth a long hike to reach; but you don’t need to, as it’s only 10mn away from the road!

Let’s see what to expect & how to get to it.

There’s another waterfall in Baume-les-Messieurs with the same name: Cascade des Tufs

Where is La Cascade des Tufs

La Cascade des Tufs is located in the north east of Jura, 50mn north east of the department capital Lons-le-Saunier and close to the border with the Doubs department.

Location: Google Maps

It’s right outside the village of Les Planches-près-Arbois, around 1h away from the beautiful village Baume-les-Messieurs and another hour to the epic castle Fort de Joux.

How to Get to Les Cascades des Tufs, Jura

You can’t drive all the way to the waterfall, but you can get pretty close. Getting to the waterfall doesn’t require a long hike, only a short walk. Drive to this free parking lot, and park your car there on the side of the road.

It’s a small parking lot with only 10 spots, and it might be full in summer. There are a few other spots just down the road but otherwise you can park in the village and walk from there, it’s only a 4mn walk from the village to this parking lot anyway.

From the parking lot, simply follow the road. There’s only one road, and there’s a sign showing the way so you can’t go wrong there.

You’ll reach the waterfall in only 10 minutes.

What to Expect at the Tufs Waterfall

The Tufs waterfall is definitely one of the best waterfalls in Jura, for many reasons: it’s easy to reach, there’s plenty of space around the waterfall to explore, and it looks beautiful.

Before and after the waterfall, you will find several natural pools. The Cuisance river gets trapped in several levels of rocks, and create these small bodies of water where you can swim.

If you have a bit of time, I recommend walking along the river to discover more of these natural pools.

Since it’s so easy to reach, the waterfall gets pretty crowded during summer; walking away along the river is a good way to find quieter areas, without the crowds.
