Photos of the Week

Monday

Photo Edit Breakdown #3 - 1

Blue hour in Etretat; editing this shot was tough, because it was really dark to begin with. I had to bring back the details in the shadows, and try to create a nice soft blue for the water, while making it contrast with the white of the cliffs.

Tuesday

Photo Edit Breakdown #3 - 2

Silhouette shot of me jumping in a cave. To get the maximum detail in the background, which is the sea and the sky, I had to expose for the highlights. The result is really dark shadows. I went along and chose to create a silhouette look, with the silhouette nicely contrasting on the blue background.

Wednesday

Photo Edit Breakdown #3 - 3

Shot by my friend @l2rssi at sunrise in front of the Eiffel Tower. This shot was hard to edit because Laurent shot in JPEG format, meaning there wasn’t a lot of information in the file. I chose to go with a soft look, and accentuate the lighting.

Thursday

Photo Edit Breakdown #3 - 4

Again with a silhouette look, but this one is a bit different. The challenge here was that all of the foreground was dark, including the cliff. It was really not that interesting, so I had to recover the details and try to make the greens come back. As it was really dark, I wasn’t able to get the greens I wanted, so I went for a faded look.

Friday

Photo Edit Breakdown #3 - 5

This was shot on the same day as the previous photo of me at the Eiffel Tower, by my friend Laurent; thus I had the same challenge, editing a JPEG image. I didn’t have a lot of freedom to edit, so I went for a soft look: I desaturated the colors, and made the stairs/wall a soft orange-y yellow.

Saturday

Photo Edit Breakdown #3 - 6

This was also shot during blue hour in Etretat; here the challenge was that the photo looked completely dull, really flat, with nothing to spike interest. I accentuated the white of the cliffs, and went for a soft magenta look in the sunset sky. I added the birds in photoshop to create extra interest, as well as the light source on the top left corner.

Sunday

Photo Edit Breakdown #3 - 7

Picture I took of my friend Robin in Noisy, a suburb in the Paris area. For this one, which is an urban shot, I went for a grungy look: desaturated the colors, and left the greens in the bottom of the picture to balance with the figure in the top half.

Which picture should I edit next? YOU choose!

So there you have them, the 7 photos of the week!

As always, let me know in the comments what you think of the images!

Have a wonderful week, and I’ll see you next Monday to edit the photo you’ve picked!
