As I was beginning my photography journey, I quickly got into Lightroom to edit my photos. I was constantly trying to find ways to learn how to use it, and I realized the most efficient way for me to learn how to edit was to watch how others went on to edit their photos.

I’ve learned a lot by watching great photographers edit their photo, but I found myself frustrated; frustrated with not having more “how-to edit” to watch. I wish more talented creative would share their take on editing (and not just a “I use my preset and then tweak it a bit”).

So here I am today, 1 year into my photography journey, wanting to help as much as I can other photographers level up their editing skills, find new tools to use, and find their style.

I’m officially launching the “Photos of the Week” Series. What is it? And how does it work? It’s simple:

Photo Edit Breakdown - The Weekly Series Infographic

As you may know if you follow me on Instagram @kev_mrc, I post a new photo each and every day, for a total of 7 photos per week.

On this weekly series, I will publish a new blog post every week on Monday, showcasing the 7 photos I shared during the week, along with a story and a quick recap of my editing process. On the post, there will also be a video of me editing the picture that was chosen by YOU the previous week.

YOU will then have the possibility to vote for 1 of the 7 images; vote for the one you want to see me edit on the next episode.

At the end of the week the votes will close, and I will pick the image with the most votes. I will then publish a “How-to Edit” video on the voted photo.

On the video, you will see me edit the photo from start to finish, with detailed comments about my process: how do I do this or that, why do I do it, why did I go for this specific style, what am I trying to achieve, and so on.

Photos of the Week

Monday

Photo Edit Breakdown first week #1

A photo from Etretat, Normandie. I previously posted a very similar photo, but decided to post it again for the Instagram WHP

The WHP was Rainbow; sadly I didn’t have rainbow in any of my photos (they’re so rare!). I created it in Photoshop. Looking back, I think I could have done a better job with it.

Tuesday

Photo Edit Breakdown first week #2

Long exposure shot in front of the Eiffel Tower, with a nice cloud. Wanted to go for a moody look with this one; I chose to give the cloud a soft red tone.

Wednesday

Photo Edit Breakdown first week #3

Shot from the top of the cliffs in Etretat. It was shot at blue hour, so the photo has a nice warm glow in the background. I wanted to make the cliffs pop, and especially reveal the contrast created by all the layers.

Thursday

Photo Edit Breakdown first week #5

Parkour shot in the Palais Royal, right next to the Louvre. A classic look of mine, desatured colors with yellow and grey.

Friday

Photo Edit Breakdown first week #4

Sunset in Etretat. The sun was really intense when I shot this, so the image was way too underexposed. Fixed it in Lightroom, but decided to keep the dark mood.

Saturday

Photo Edit Breakdown first week #6

Imaginary composite shot from a tutorial by Outbound Media

Had a lot of fun creating this! The shot is made from a milky way shot, the clouds come from a sunrise I shot at the Eiffel Tower, and the person is my dad which I took from a picture in Glarus, Switzerland (you can check out the travel story here: Unexpected Discovery – Frozen Lake in Glarus, Switzerland)

Sunday

Photo Edit Breakdown first week #7

Most challenging shot of the week for me. Had fun with the colors in Lightroom, went for a orange and teal look. I had to remove a big ass scaffolding in Photoshop, and remove it from the inside of the ball too. Added a bit of bokeh on the Eiffel Tower in photoshop as well.

Which picture should I edit next? YOU choose!

So there you have them, the 7 photos of the week!

So, which one do you want to see me edit? Vote below!

(I am not putting the composite shot in the vote (number 6), because it was made using another tutorial, which I linked to above).

As always, let me know in the comments what you think of the images!

Have a wonderful week, and I’ll see you next Monday to edit the photo you’ve picked!
