Well, today I’m sharing my 30 best Lisbon sunset spots with you. Yes, 30. One for every day of the month.

Let’s see them!

Best Miradouros for Sunset – Lisbon

“Miradouro” means “viewpoint” in Portuguese, and you can find plenty of them in many Portugal cities, especially in Lisbon. Let’s check them out!

Wondering what are the sunrise sunset hours in Lisbon? Check here.

1. The Best Place for Beautiful Sunsets: Miradouro da Graça

The first sunset lookout is the Miradouro Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen – often called Miradouro da Graça for simplicity’s sake. Located right above the Alfama district about 15 minutes walk away from the Lisbon Cathedral, it offers an incredible view over the city.

Reaching the viewpoint is hard work (looot of steps to climb), but it’s absolutely worth it. The Miradouro da Graça is among the lesser known miradouros in the city, so you’ll actually have some room to breathe while spending the end of the afternoon up there.

It’s deemed as the best sunset spot by a lot of locals, and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed if you choose this spot for sunset. The viewpoint itself is pretty large, and there are several benches where you can sit to enjoy the view.

2. Miradouro da Nossa Senhora do Monte

The Miradouro da Nossa Senhora do Monte is the highest point in the neighborhood, and it offers a killer view over the Alfama district. Going up to the viewpoint is a solid workout, expect to climb a lot of steps! But I guarantee that it’s absolutely worth it.

3. Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara

The Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara is a little park in the heart of the city, with a fountain, trees, and several benches where you can sit to enjoy the sunset.

Located 10 minutes walk from the Restauradores metro station, the park overlooks the city and offers a nice view all the way to the Castelo de S. Jorge.

4. Miradouro de Santa Luzia

Located in the Alfama district, a 6-minute walk from the Lisbon Cathedral, this miradouro is a lovely lookout to catch the Lisbon sunset. The viewpoint itself is pretty nice, with a small pond, flowers, and shaded benches to relax

5. Miradouro do Monte Agudo

There are several miradouros on this list for best Lisbon sunset spots, but if you go during the summer they will most likely be crowded.

A good alternative is the Miradouro do Monte Agudo, which is furthest away from the city center, and will give you some peace and quiet while you enjoy the sunset.

6. Miradouro de Santa Catarina

The last miradouro on this list of best sunset spots in Lisbon! The Miradouro de Santa Catarina is not the best viewpoint for peace and quiet, but it’s definitely the best if you want to hang out with friends or loved ones while having a drink and listening to music played by street performers around.

Best Landmarks to See the Sun Set

As you certainly already know, Lisbon is full of incredible landmarks and some of them offer some outstanding views over the city. Let’s check them out!

7. Castelo de S. Jorge

The visit of the castle itself is a nice thing to do when in Lisbon: you can explore the ruins of this old medieval castle. But what really makes it a must-do for me is the view.

The view you get from the ramparts is breathtaking. Because the Sao Jorge Castle is located on a hill, it’s the perfect vantage point to overlook the whole city. On the picture above, you can see the Alfama district, the city center (with the Carmo Convent), and all the way to the Belém district with the 25 de Abril bridge.

After enjoying the view from the top of the castle, you can go down to the Miradouro do Castelo de São Jorge, a nice open-air spot where you can sit down, relax, and enjoy the view of the sun setting over Lisboa.

Caution: don’t go in February, end of June, or beginning of July – it closes before the sunset on these dates.

8. Arco da Rua Augusta

The Arco da Rua Augusta is a massive stone arch, at the end of the Rua Augusta, one of the main streets in Lisbon City Center. It opens up on the biggest square of Lisboa, Praça do Comércio. You can go up to the top of the arch, which will give you a stunning view over the city center.

9. Belém Tower

The Belém Tower is a classic, and I’ll never get tired of coming there to enjoy both sunrises and sunsets. While I prefer coming there for sunrise to have the place for myself if you’re not a morning person you’ll absolutely enjoy sitting on the steps in front of the tower to watch the sun set.

10. Santa Justa Lift

While I love going to the Santa Justa lift for sunrise to beat the crowd, the viewpoint is not open for sunrise. However, it’s open for sunset, and it’s thus the perfect place to come watch the sunset over the Lisbon city center.

11. Park Eduardo VII

Park Eduardo VII is a nice park overlooking the Tejo river, which is one of the best parks in the city to chill for an afternoon. Stay until the sunset for a stunning view all the way to the river in the background. Go all the way uphill to the miradouro for the best view.

12. Aqueduto das Águas Livres

Did you know there was an aqueduct in Lisbon? The Aqueduto das Águas Livres was built in the 18th century and is 65 meters high in its highest point (213 feet).

For the best view, go to the parking lot “Estacionamento estaçao comboios Campolide”, head towards the train station, and go on the bridge above the train tracks.

13. Elevador Panorâmico da Boca do Vento

Alright, I know this list is called “Best Sunset in Lisbon”, but this place is not exactly in Lisbon. The Elevador Panorâmico da Boca do Vento is located in Almada, across the Tejo river, not far from the Cristo Rei (30 minutes walk or 8 minutes drive).

The Elevador is the tall structure you can see on the left of the picture above. From the top, you’ll have an incredible view over the Tejo river and the red suspension bridge. You can also watch the sunset from the beach.

Tip: in the same area, you’ll have a good view from right next to the Amarra Ó Tejo restaurant.

14. Amoreiras 360º Panoramic View

This Lisbon sunset location is not one you’d immediately think of, because it’s pretty far from the historical city center. However, going there to watch the sunset is absolutely worth it!

The Amoreiras 360° Panoramic View is a huge rooftop terrace, on top of the Amoreiras shopping center, 174 meters above sea level (570 feet). From up there, you can see most of Lisbon’s iconic monuments, including the Ponte 25 de April and Cristo Rei down south, and the Eduardo VII Park up north.

The Panoramic View is open until late at night, which makes it the perfect spot for sunsets in Lisbon.

16. Park Rooftop Bar

The Park Bar is a nice rooftop bar in Lisbon, on the 6th floor of a building. It’s one of the hidden gems of the city, and you need to know how to find it: enter into the parking garage and look for the elevator. Take the lift to the top floor, and you’ll exit on the rooftop bar!

Tip: the bar gets crowded at the end of the day, so get there a bit earlier if you want to make sure you’ll catch the sunset

17. Hotel Mundial Rooftop

The Hotel Mundial has a very nice rooftop bar, where locals love to go to enjoy a drink and watch the sunset. From the bar, you have a true 360° view over the city, with a close view on the Castelo de S. Jorge and Carmo Convent.

Tip: ignore security and enter the hotel, take the lift to the last level to reach the rooftop. Free to access, so you can go up, take some photos and leave without getting any drink

18. Topo Rooftop Bar

The last bar on this list is the Topo Rooftop bar. It offers a stunning view over the Castelo de Sao Jorge, and you’ll enjoy having a drink while watching the sun set over the city. There is also a restaurant there, so you can have dinner after the sunset.

Tip: To get to the rooftop bar, enter the shopping mall Martim Moniz, and go to the top using the lift

More Top Spots for Sunset in Lisbon

Lisbon has even more places to capture the sunset that are not lookouts, landmarks, or rooftops. Generally easier to access, they’re definitely worth the look!

19. Cais das Colunas

The Caias das Colunas is a very iconic place in Lisbon, right in front of the Praça do Comércio. It’s a little jetty above the water, with 2 columns, hence the name. It’s the perfect spot to watch the sun slowly dip into the sea, with the Ponte 25 de April in the background.

20. Panorâmico de Monsanto

For our 20th spot on the list of best sunset locations in Lisbon, we’ll go away from the main touristic area. The Panorâmico de Monsanto is a very unique place: an abandoned restaurant on top of a hill, decorated by street artists.

There are several levels in the building; make sure you go all the way to the top, as the view from the top of the building is nothing short of spectacular.

The Fonte Luminoso is a big fountain located in the Jardim da Alameda Dom Afonso Henriques. Right behind the fountain, there is a balcony (which you can see on the photo below). When you’re on top, you’ll have a beautiful view over the park, with colorful buildings on each side.

Did you know the longest bridge in Europe was in Lisbon? It’s the Ponte Vasco Da Gama, and it’s 17,2 kilometers long (10,7 miles). The best spot to watch the sun set behind the massive bridge is in the Jardim do Passeio dos Heróis do Mar, a large park right at the base of the bridge.

24. Ribeira das Naus

The Ribeira das Naus is a waterfront promenade, on the banks of the Tagus river right next to Praça do Comércio. 25. Algés Beach

Yes, Lisbon has beaches! The Praia de Algés is a small beach in the west of Lisbon, but a beach nonetheless. It’s one of the hidden gems of Lisbon, not many people know about it, so you’ll most likely be able to enjoy a quiet moment away from the crowds. It’s a nice place for sunsets, as you can see on the picture below.
