The first important thing to look for in a dog friendly tent is obviously space for your dog(s). As opposed to just making sure if the tent can fit enough people, you’ll need to check if there is extra space for your life companion.
There are several options for tents with space for dogs:
- Screen room: the best option is a screen room, an extra room usually designed as a space to store your gear or play during the day. A screen room is perfect for your dogs, and it’s where they’ll sleep
- Vestibule: the second option is to pick a tent with 1 or 2 vestibules; they are extra space on the side of your tent, not really in the tent but covered by the rainfly. This will allow your dog to be sheltered from the rain & winds. It’s usually the kind of space you’ll find in the best tents for backpacking with dogs, as backpacking tent need to be light and can’t have an extra screen room
- Extra space: the last option is simply to pick a tent with extra room. If you’re comfortable in having your dog sleep with you, then picking a tent with more room can be the solution (e.g. a 4 people tent for 2 adults and a dog)
