For the youngster, there is a large selection of various activities. The most liked are the aquatic and theme parks that are nearby.

The boat tours are the second most popular attraction of the city. It allows you to get at sea, see the rock formations from the sea, and spend a little time far from the shore, which is always nice. You can also rent any time of boat, if you have a license indeed, and practice almost any kind of water front activities.

For the golf lovers, Albufeira is also an iconic destination with some of the courses being played in the European tour.

It’s a city that prides itself with historic heritage and dramatic natural scenery. You’ll find Portuguese culture, beautiful beaches and modern tourist facilities. Many of those beaches are safe and sheltered, perfect for children, even of a very young age.

Lagos is ideal because it can also be the base camp for further Algarve exploration. From Lagos, lots of day trips are easy to do.

As for families, everybody there welcomes children: hotels, resorts, restaurants, attractions and activities. There is also a zoo, a waterpark and a marine park which are always great to visit with children.

Although I have said earlier that Albufeira is full of activities, Lagos is practically the same, and if you’re hesitating between the two on that matter, make your choice based upon the accommodations, because they are perfectly equal.

The whole place is pretty simple but efficient. Anyway, the good things are outside the comfort zone.

Best Algarve Family Place for Peace & Quiet: Sagres

Sagres is located at the extreme western tip of the Algarve coastline. It’s pretty unique in Portugal. There, the adventurous meets the intrepid in a wild environment. Come and see if you can dominate nature’s raw power. Barren landscapes, the intense summer sun and the huge cliffs that holds many surprising rock formations are among them. You’re in for a treat.

As you may have presumed, this area is less populated, and less visited. All the better for those who look for peace and quiet. The town is deemed cool by the locals, maybe because of all the surfers that come in the area.

As for the activities, the main ones are surfing, hiking and visiting. You’ll visit the harbor, the lighthouse and the fort, and you’ll hike the natural park. Finally you can just enjoy the sun in one of the relaxing beaches of the area.

Very nice colored room that fits with the cool atmosphere of the town. You can also get fully equipped apartments, which is nicer if you’re with your family. The decoration is cheerful and I might go as far as saying that, it looks more like a hostel than a hotel.
I love it.

Top Luxury Hotel: Martinhal Sagres Beach Family Resort Hotel

This is the best hotel on the beach for families in the Algarve region. It’s set within the protected natural park and composed of an insanely pretty 5-star hotel and a selection of luxury family villas for more privacy. With no less than four take away options and two restaurants, have no fear for the well-being or your appetite.

Best Budget Hotel: Apartamentos Atalaia

We like the interior patio of this aparthotel, and the bright colors of some rooms. It’s very much kid friendly, and the quality of this place is surprisingly high. Very good value for money indeed.
