Located only 1 hour north of Madrid in Spain, Segovia is the perfect destination for a day trip from Madrid. And the best way to discover this small city is simply to walk around, going from one monument to the other, preferably with a guide.

If you were searching for “free tour Segovia” and ended up here, you’re lucky. I’ve made a selection of the best Segovia free walking tours to help you choose the best one for you. And if don’t like any of these options, I’ve prepared a free map so you can tour Segovia by yourself.

Let’s go!

The Best Free Segovia Tours

Before starting the list, are you sure you know what is a free tour? If not, let me clarify first.

A free tour you book in advance is, most of the time, a pay-what-you-want walking tour: the tour is free to book, but the guide can expect to be rewarded with a tip when the tour ends. This means you are free to choose the price. You can give nothing, 5€, but you can also give 100€ if you want to!  PS: tickets to monuments are at your cost.

Now that it’s clear, let’s jump to the list!

5. More Segovia Guided Tours

As you’ve noticed, there are no free Segovia guided tours given in English. So if you don’t speak Spanish, you can either follow the tour without listening to the guide’s explanations, or you can choose to pay for an English-speaking tour.

If you’re ready to pay, then here are my recommendations:

⭐️ Best option – Segovia Tour: you’ll be able to fully explore the town and main monuments during a 5-hour tour for 50€. And if you have more time, you can even choose to visit Toledo and El Escorial for the same price.

💰 Cheapest optionSelf-Guided Audio Tour: rent the audio guide + online map for 6€ so you can tour Segovia on your own. It’s a great option, especially if you want to visit privately and at your pace.

🚀 Private option – Private Walking Tour of Segovia: if you prefer private sightseeing tours, this is the one. Starting at 90€ for a group of 5 people, this Segovia tour of 2 hours is the best to visit the town with your family or friends.

If you’re not satisfied with any of the options above, then the best thing to do is definitely to tour Segovia by yourself. Keep reading below!

Tips For Your Segovia Free Tour

Walking tours are my favorite way to discover a new place when backpacking through Europe. My experiences have allowed me to make a small list of things to do (and not to do) to make these walking tours amazing.

These tips will help you make the most out of your visit to Segovia, whatever the tour you choose:

  • As for any walking tour, make sure to wear proper footwear! Sneakers are ok for this short walk, but hiking shoes are always recommended
  • Wear sunscreen and a hat if it’s sunny; the sun is no joke
  • Remember to be respectful when you enter places of worship: take off your hats, and be quiet
  • Bring a thermos with you on your walk, you’ll be happy to have cold water/hot coffee with you when you sit down for a break

Where to Stay in Segovia

If you want to stay in town, you have several options for where to stay. You’ll find below hotels depending on your travel style.

⭐️ Best Hotel – Hotel Spa La Casa Mudéjar: Very comfy rooms, with private bathroom, for around 65€ per night. The two nice bonuses? It’s right next to the Cathedral, and there is a spa, the perfect place to go and relax after a long day of exploring Segovia!

💰 Best Budget Hotel – Hosteria Natura: Cheapest accommodation in Segovia, for around 30€ per night. It comes with a private bathroom and free wifi. This hostel has the best location as it’s right on the main square Plaza Mayor, and everything is within walking distance. There’s also A/C and heating in each room, for your comfort.

If you’re not satisfied with these hotels, you can find more options in this guide of the best hotels in Segovia.
